Following close on the heels of Micahel Sexton, this week we congratulate Victorian based timekeeper Stan Pettett who was on the siren for the Geelong v. Carlton match at the MCG on 27 April. The match was his 250th AFL match.

Michael was one of the timekeepers at the Round 5 Melbourne v. Brisbane clash at the MCG. As such he completed his 250th AFL match in that role. Of course add to that his 6 AFL matches as a field umpire in 1997 and his match total becomes that much more (probably some emergency jobs in there as well).

Gather Round saw two milestones achieved by match officials

Ash Thomas, whose first of three matches for the weekend was his 150th AFL match when he time kept the Fremantle v. Carlton match at Adelaide Oval to bring up the milestone.

Also having multiple matches on the weekend got Dusty-Lea Gould to her 150th AFL match as an interchange steward when she officiated at the West Coast v. Sydney match at Mount Barker.

Round 1 was big in the west. Congratulations to timekeeper Adam Peacock who officiated in his 150th match as an AFL timekeeper in the Fremantle v. Brisbane match,. Add in his 66 matches as an AFL goal umpire 2006-2012 and he is over the 200 involvements.

A big opening round for milestones both in the box and next to the gates

Congratulations to Lauren Schultz who bought up the double-ton with her 200th match as an interchange steward in the Brisbane v. Carlton match.

200 matches also to Chris Howarth-Crewdson whose first match in his Opening Round double-header also in the Brisbane v. Carlton match.

Jason Mitchell has combined both roles to bring up 100 matches. The ton was recorded at Carrara Gold Coast v. Richmond

Congratulations to John Adams who officiated in his 150th AFL match on the weekend. John was the interchange steward in the Brisbane v. Collingwood match which opened the round on 6 April.

Closing the round was Don Stock who was on the clock for 550th time since 1987 during the Geelong v. Hawthorn Easter Monday clash.

Congratulations Vince Sercia who was the Interchange Steward in the Second Qualifying Final on 2 September Melbourne v. Sydney at the MCG. The final was his 200th as an interchange steward and goes with his 58 AFL matches as a field umpire

Outstanding longevity from Interchange Steward Adrian Barlow who racked up his 300th AFL match on Sunday 14 August when he had the I-pad out as Essendon capitulated to Port Adelaide at Docklands.

A fireman by trade he was the recipient of an Australian Fire Service Medal.

Wade Stewart has been a member of the Tasmania Fire Service for 40 years. He has provided a high quality of service to the Tasmanian Community, aiding to keep Tasmania safe against fires and other emergencies and providing strong and consistent leadership to the Risdon Vale Brigade’s Firefighters. Wade’s dedicated service was acknowledged in 1997 when he was awarded the National Medal and again in 2000 when he received the Volunteer medal. Wade joined the Risdon Vale Fire Brigade in 1982 as a Volunteer Firefighter to service the local community. In 2001 Wade was voted by his peers and promoted to become the 3rd Officer at Risdon Vale Brigade. Six years later Wade was recognised by the Risdon Vale Brigade for his competence and leadership and was promoted to 1st Officer. Wade is currently the 1st Officer and has been since his promotion in 2007. During his time as 1st Officer, Wade has trained and developed countless career and volunteer firefighters in road crash rescue, hazmat and firefighting. Wade has spent countless hours of his personal time on the fireground and on the training ground to ensure proper preparation for all hazard emergencies. Wade ensures that the Risdon Vale Brigade can always provide a timely and adequate response to emergencies in the local area as well as intrastate and interstate. Wade has led crews to some dangerous jobs over the years, and he does this leading by example and ensuring that the job required is done to the best of everyone’s ability and ensure everyone gets home safe on our truck and any other Brigade he has worked with. If Wade wasn’t on the crew, he would always check in on how they were going and checking you were okay when you got back to the station. He has always followed up with his members after every job especially the bad ones to ensure every member got the support they needed and to check their mental health was okay. He also made sure everyone affected got a phone call from the health services. Wade has a great working relationship with career crews as well and organises the Brigade to do weekend training sessions to assist career firefighters going for their leading fire fighter promotions. Wade has organized a structured approach to the brigade and has his succession planning place. Undoubtedly the Brigade is in a better position after Wade’s 40 years of influence. Wade can always be counted on to assist at short notice and work collaboratively to ensure a positive outcome. Wade has worked tirelessly during his time and continues to do so with many long days and nights to provide support to District Staff and other Brigades in the area. Wade makes himself available no matter what time of the day and the support he gives is second to none. Wade is a highly respected member with-in the Tasmania Fire Service.

Celebrations in South Australia and Victoria in Round 9

Interchange steward Michelle Thomson bought up her 150th AFL match on Friday 13 May in the Collingwood v. Western Bulldogs match at he MCG.

In Adelaide time keeper David Elliott was on the siren for 200th AFL match in his career as Adelaide played Brisbane at the Adelaide Oval.

Brett Dodge was an interchange steward for the Essendon v. Adelaide clash at Docklands on Sunday 10 April. It was his 200th AFL match in that capacity. Brett’s first match was 2008.

Long time interchange steward Adam Gulliver brought up the remarkable triple century of AFL matches when he controlled the gates at Collingwood v. Adelaide at the MCG in Round 2.

No idea how many interchanges 300 AFL matches actually has involved but he has seen a lot of changes from verbal to post-it notes to i-pads.

It’s been big consecutive matches for Ryan Warburton on grand final day 2021 and then in Round 1 2022 he did his first AFL grand final and then his 100th AFL match as an interchange steward at the West Coast v. Gold Coast clash at Perth Stadium on Sunday

Brad Noonan who officiated his 250th AFL match as a timekeeper on Sunday 23 May 2021 at the M.C.G., Collingwood v Port Adelaide

The short and long of Round 7 2022 belong to Amy Anderson and Don Stock.

Congratulations Amy on your first match as an AFL timekeeper, may there be many more in your future

As usual the long in longevity belongs to Don Stock. Don was one of the timekeepers in the first match at Docklands Round 1 2000. This week he backed that up as one of the timekeepers in the 1000th Docklands fixture – a lazy 23 seasons later.

In Round 3, 2021 when Richmond take on Sydney at the MCG sounding the siren will be a milestone for Don Stock. It will be his 500th AFL match as a timekeeper.

Don started in 1989 as the Melbourne-based timekeeper for the West Coast Eagles.  From 1989-2000 kept the time for the Eagles through some pretty good times including the 1991,1992 and 1994 AFL Grand Finals.

When the AFL introduced independent timekeepers for the 2000 AFL season Don was one of those appointed from more than 50 club applicants. Only he and Cam Bell remain of that original cohort. As one of the independent timekeepers Don added to his resume with the 2004 and 2019 AFL Grand Finals.

For a number of years he also gave of his time for the E.J Whitten match as their ‘go to’ timekeeper.

Don is a much loved character among not only the timekeepers but the umpiring group as well.  Having been around for so long he has a great rapport with the umpires, the umpire coaches and trainers. His passion for football is evident every time you talk to him about any aspect of it.

Congratulations Don on a huge milestone and many more games to come.
